UPDATE: Board of Supervisors meetings will return to the Board Chamber at Marin County Civic Center on April 7.

Marin County, CA – Early next year, the Marin County Board of Supervisors is moving its regular meetings to a temporary home across the Civic Center campus to allow for significant audio and video upgrades in the Board’s chamber beneath the iconic blue dome.

Beginning in January 2026, Board meetings will be held at the Marin Center Showcase Theater, located at 20 Avenue of the Flags near the Exhibit Hall and Bartolini Gallery. The temporary relocation is anticipated for January and February 2026, with the possibility of extension depending on construction progress.

This relocation to the 300-seat Showcase Theater also will apply to meetings of the Marin Housing Authority, the Marin County Open Space District Board of Directors, the Marin County Flood Control and Water Conservation District Board of Directors, and the Marin County Planning Commission. Community members are encouraged to check each governing body’s website to confirm meeting locations.

According to the Board’s adopted 2026 meeting calendar, scheduled Showcase Theater meeting dates include January 20, January 27, February 10, and February 24. Additional dates may be added if needed.

The Board chamber’s audio-visual system is beyond its useful life, and modernization is required to meet current expectations for public access and transparency. Recent updates to the Ralph M. Brown Act, enacted through Senate Bill 707, expand requirements for remote participation and mandate that municipalities provide a two-way telephonic or audio-visual option for public meetings by July 2026. These legislative changes prompted the County to prioritize enhanced streaming and meeting-support capabilities.

The modernization project will include new monitors, microphones, graphic display tools, enhanced camera angles for livestreaming, and other technical upgrades. The project is a joint effort between the Clerk of the Board’s office and the County’s Information Services and Technology (IST) Department, with IST leading the technical modernization and the Clerk’s Office overseeing meeting operations and public access requirements. As part of the overhaul, County staff will assume responsibility for broadcasting, recording, and publishing meetings, delivering long-term cost savings by reducing reliance on external vendors.

During the temporary relocation, community members will continue to have all the same options for participation as they do in the Board chamber. Meetings may be attended in person, viewed via the County’s livestream, or watched on Channel 27 for Comcast and Channel 99 for AT&T U-verse subscribers. Remote speakers may participate through the County’s videoconference platform by using the “raise hand” function

The Board approved a $1.14 million contract with Prime Electric during its October 21 meeting to handle the renovation. Funding was part of the 2025-26 County General Fund budget approved in May 2025.
