What we do
Our firefighters respond to fires and emergencies in Marin. Our firefighters are well-trained and have access to specialized equipment, so we’re ready to respond in different emergencies.
Types of fire suppression
We respond to any fire incident. Our firefighters are well-trained in responding to:
- Structural fires. A structural fire is a fire that happens in or near a building. Our firefighters have state of the art equipment to respond to structure fires. This includes enhanced water supply systems. When we’re responding to a fire in an area with inadequate water supply, we’ll use additional water tenders. This means we can bring water to the scene, if there isn’t enough at the site.
- Wildland fires. Our department is ready to respond to wildland fires. We operate a fleet of firefighting equipment, including Type III wildland firefighting engines. During peak fire season, Seasonal Firefighters are brought on to complete four Type-1 Hand Crews. Each crew, led by a Marin County Fire Captain and made up of 14 firefighters, uses hand tools to fight wildland fires. This method of fire suppression is crucial in areas with limited water supplies.
We have mutual aid agreements with all fire agencies in Marin, enhancing responses to emergencies. No matter the jurisdiction, the nearest fire station will be dispatched to your emergency, despite jurisdictional boundaries.
